Salzburg Marionette Theater

The Salzburg Marionette Theater, enchanting audiences since 1913 with fairy tales and operas (including Mozart’s works), is now a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Their performance celebrates the 60th anniversary of The Sound of Music with tales of Maria, a free-spirited postulant who left Nunberg Abbey to become governess to Captain Von Trapp’s seven children. Maria’s kindness and music transformed their strict home, winning their hearts and the Captain’s love. They married, but the Nazi annexation of Austria forced their escape. After a final performance, the family fled over the mountains to Switzerland.
