Set against the starkly beautiful mountains of Connemara, County Galway, this Tony Award-nominated play introduces us to Maureen Folan, a lonely woman in her early forties clinging to the hope of a loving relationship. Her life is dominated by her manipulative and aging mother, Mag, whose insidious interference ignites a chain of events that twists from darkly humorous to terrifying.  

Winner of the 1998 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Play, The Beauty Queen of Leenane has been lauded as a "gothic dark comedy" reminiscent of Synge, blending savage humor with profound sorrow.
